The Syracuse Center
for Peace & Social Justice is committed to developing an energy-efficient,
environmentally-friendly, low-impact facility. Significant work has
already begun in this direction, but more remains to be done.
Landscaping
A comprehensive
landscaping plan has been developed to make the Center's grounds attractive
and environmentally-friendly. The plan highlights native species of
plants. Check out the
full plan and
the list
of plants. The
landscaping committee has scheduled a Work Project on Saturday, October
11 from 8 am - 12 noon. Come lend a hand.
Energy
Efficiency Steps
The attic was fully-insulated with high-quality foam insulation, a new
high-efficiency furnace was installed on the second floor and energy-efficient
light was installed on that floor. Exterior walls on the ground floor
were insulated and the duct systems on the ground and first floor were
updated for increased efficiency. Future plans include: updating the
first floor lighting, replacing windows, adding wall insulation, installing
a waterless urinal on the second floor and more.
